I've posted some more A Year In Sussex (still need to think of a decent name for this project) over on flickr or click on the image above
The road.cc Travel Trophy attempt is now being blogged about on the Milltag website. The ride from January in Surrey is posted, as is the February ride in Kent. I've also completed the March ride around the Isle of Wight which will be online soon.

A couple of evenings ago I photographed Jo Burt of road.cc and Oli Pepper of Morvelo on one of their night time urban 'cross rides around Brighton. Or rather photographed the traces of them riding around. I'll be posting them up on flickr over the next few days.
Some stuff I wanted to do didn't work, but I'll figure out how to get those ideas to work, and then try again, if Jo and Oli allow me to ruin another one of their rides for them. Or I'll bribe them with Belgian beers.

Went out a few days ago to attempt the western part of the landscape ride, but was beaten by the weather. Decided to work my way from Steyning Bostal around as far as Streat Bostal, and then home over Ditchling Beacon. Main roads were clear, but all the lanes and tracks that I really wanted to get down were too icy to ride. Even Bostal Road was closed to traffic (I rode a little way up but could see it was impassable further up so gave up). Managed a few photos but not everything I wanted to get. Whilst initially frustrated by this, I soon realised that the point of this project is that it is travelled by bike, so if roads are closed, or landscapes inaccessible, this is as much part of the project as the photographs themselves.
I’ve also pondered that I may need to split the ride into two each month. Trying to cover 80-90 miles in a day whilst continually stopping to take photographs is going to be difficult. Well, at least until the days get longer.
Started to post some photos on flickr

Started the Sussex landscape project at the weekend. Due to weather conditions I only managed about half the route I want to ride each month. Above and below are two of the photos taken, above is looking towards the Long Man of Wilmington, and below is one of the lanes across Pevensey Levels. Click here to the see the route ridden and I also made a short timelapse film of the ride.
I will try to fit in the rest of the ride around work tomorrow if I can...

Going to be working on a few cycling related photo projects over the coming months:
I'll be making a portfolio of 6x7 medium format photographs at local framebuilders Enigma, as well as working with Brian McClave on a stereoscopic time-lapse film of the fabrication of a complete bicycle. Should be starting this project at the end of January so more details soon.
Another local project is that each month in 2013 I will ride the same route in East Sussex whilst taking photographs of the same views and scenes. By the end of the year I will have a catalogue of the changing seasons and landscapes of East Sussex. I may turn this into a book, but in the meantime I will post some photos here and over on flickr. I haven't planned a route yet and I'm running out of January weekends to start this, so I really need to pull my finger out. I want to include Pevensley Levels, Bo Peep and Steyning Bostals so it could be a long and meandering ride (as all the best rides are). Not sure I can venture as far north as the Ashdown Forest, but we'll see.
A plan for further afield is the road.cc Travel Trophy instigated by my friend Jo Burt (in the red jersey in the White Chalk Hill UCX film still below). The challenge is to ride a different county in the UK each month of the year. As one of the things I love about cycling is how it has allowed me to explore and discover Sussex far more in the last 12 months than the last 12 years, hence the project above, this seems a brilliant idea. Last year I managed to ride in Surrey, Hampshire, Cornwall, Yorkshire and Lancashire but the Travel Trophy (there is no trophy, it's just a name for the thing) will add some structure. And of course if I'm going to do this I will be photographing it. Above are a few photos from the January ride in the Surrey Hills last weekend. This may also turn into a blog, more details soon.
Those are the bigger projects currently lined up. However there will also be three more rides organised by my good friend Velomorphe this year, which I hope to photograph or film. In the next couple of weeks I will be photographing a night time urban CX ride around Brighton, which should produce some interesting results. Either that or it'll be cold night out followed by Belgian beers. And of course there is my tumblr that will document all of my rides anyway. Think there could be a couple of other things coming along too...
When it's all written down it seems it's going to be a busy year. I might even squeeze in some things that don't involve bicycles. Maybe.

Started work on a film of the White Chalk Hills Ultracross event, held on the last Sunday of 2012. organised by Velomorphe. It features headcam footage shot by me as I rode this 48 mile cyclocross ride across the South Downs, from Eastbourne to Firle and back again, plus additional footage shot by Velomorphe from various points along the course. The film should be online by the end of January.
In the last few months of last year I also photographed a couple of local London X League cyclocross races held in Brighton, one at Happy Valley and one at Stanmer Park
